The Leelanau School’s Residential Life Program works within our mission to “inspire, encourage and support the discovery of individual potential” through teachings from our residential staff and guest speakers as well as unique Life Skills offerings from our entire faculty and staff.

Through the Residential Life Program, students are provided with opportunities to learn to be both happy and successful in their lives. The program helps to teach students to keep a balance of healthy eating and sleeping habits, make the right friends and form positive relationships, deal with good and bad choices, stay clean and organized, and handle academic pressure.

Residential Life seminars are held one night each week after an abbreviated study hall. Life Skills offerings also may occur during this Residential Life timeslot.

There are three main dormitories on campus with faculty apartments attached to each. Each dorm is equipped with a comfortable common area, a refrigerator, microwave, television and VCR. Students are held accountable for the cleanliness of their rooms and shared living areas.

Life Skills
Life Skills offerings at Leelanau give students opportunities to learn more than just academics. Students sign up at the beginning of each semester for a minimum of two life skills topics. The faculty and staff provide topics that they are familiar with and can teach in a “hands-on” manner. Each year, students come out of this program with a new set of skills that build their knowledge base and boost their self confidence.

The Mentor Program
The Leelanau School provides a mentor program for all incoming and some returning students. Returning seniors, juniors and occasionally sophomore serve as mentors.

The purpose of our mentor program is to help new students adjust to life at a boarding school. The mentors primarily address non-academic issues. The mentors receive training and support from mentor advisors.

The Prefect Program
Seniors and juniors have an opportunity to be considered for a role as Resident Assistants in our dorms. Candidates are interviewed by staff and peers and are chosen based on leadership and academic skills.
