Winter term
Winter Term is a five week academic term in which students choose two courses for intensive study. Winter Term course offerings - designed and facilitated by our faculty - create strength-based, experiential learning environments in our student's areas of interest and expertise. Students spend two and a half hours per day in each class, giving them ample opportunity to delve deeply into the subject material and produce high quality, creative and original work. Two semester credits (one for each course) are awarded at the successful completion of the term.
Some of the course offerings for January 2011 Included:
Food is Love, a chance for students to hone their culinary skills, Critical Psychology, where students will do experiments and hands-on activities on topics such as personality traits and multiple intelligences, Introduction to Robotics and Operations, with students trying their hand at creating robots using Lego® Mindstorm technology, Guatemala: Language, Culture, and Service Program, a study abroad program that consists of studying the Spanish language and Guatemalan culture in addition to service learning for 2.5 weeks in Guatemala City, and Marine Biology, a course designed to give students first-hand experiences of what life is like in the marine ecosystem using an ecological approach and sailing around the British and American Virgin Islands for two weeks.
