Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Leelanau Summer Academy is the ideal summer program for intelligent students entering grades 9—12. We offer a selection of college preparatory courses using multi-sensory, experiential, and strength-based methodologies. We offer an approach to education that is excellent for all learners, and critical for those with learning differences. Students gain awareness of their individual learning styles, build skills and strategies to maximize their learning potential, and grow into independent learners.
Students take two courses each day, six days per week, for four weeks. Each course meets for 2 1/2 hours per day. After four weeks, one semester credit is earned for each successful course completed.
Afternoon activities include beach time, kayaking, art exploration, concerts, sporting events and more.
Once a week, an Academy Exploration Day Trip is taken. Typical day trips include boating along the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, followed by a traverse to South Manitou Island. Or a visit to Black Star Farms- a local vineyard, cheese factory and farm market; even a day spent sailing on Grand Traverse Bay from Traverse City to Power Island, conducting science experiments along the way.
One semester credit is earned for each course:
Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry
Field Biology
English 9, 10 and 11
US History
Native American History
American Government
Fine Arts
